Garden Design, Sutton

A project to design and construct / plant a large formal garden in a suburban house in Sutton. The design brief was to create a both formal and restful space with a muted planting palate to offer year round structure and interest - and to offer a space that could be viewed and experienced both from different points in the garden and from the main rooms in the house. A large amount of Buxus (box) and Taxus (yew) hedging was used, along with Magnolia grandiflora and Ilex standard trees to create an enclosed space which felt less overlooked, with this formal structure interplanted with splashes of looser repeat planting comprising Hydrangeas, Salvias and other herbaceous perennials to tie the various areas of the garden together.
