Riverside Garden Design, Construction & Planting, Sunbury-On-Thames, Surrey.
A small scale courtyard design on the banks of the River Thames - with all material needing to be transported on and off site by boat!
This project involved designing and then entirely constructing the new garden of a beautiful riverside property in Sunbury-on-Thames. The brief was for a Mediterranean courtyard style garden with fragrant and exotic planting, a fountain, and a seating area next to the river. The site was only accessible by boat from a riverside mooring 100 yards upstream, meaning all materials (10m2 of waste material, 50m2 of paving, glass panels, sand, cement, plants, soil etc.) had to come in and out via a small boat - a considerable logistical challenge! Particular features included in this design are the glass balustrade allowing an uninterrupted view out towards the river, the water feature with electrics hidden beneath the paving and the custom-built cedar trellis and handrail. All pots were linked to an irrigation system to allow for minimal ongoing maintenance.
